Activism Works, Chipman Defeated

by Kirk Beswick on September 12, 2021

Thanks to the members of New Hampshire Firearms Coalition and gun owners all across America, the nomination of David Chipman to become head of the department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has been defeated this week.

Many, many thanks to those NHFC members who called and wrote their representatives and senators in Washington to let them know that this man was not only anti-gun, but was actively working to take the right to self-protection away from our citizens.
Chipman famously said:

“With respect to the AR-15, I support a ban as has been presented in a senate bill and supported by the president,” Chipman told Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Others noted:
“It’s hard to think of a worse possible nominee than David Chipman to run the ATF,” says Larry Keane of the National Shooting Sports Foundation. “Among the bills he lobbied Congress for were universal background checks, handgun licensing and registration, banning modern sporting rifles, instituting age-based gun bans and he wanted to establish a national firearms transfer delay period.”

While we see this as an absolute victory, this may prove to be a short lived one, as rumors continue to swirl around a possible “other position” for Chipman in the Biden administration.  [Meaning: Paying Chipman with your tax money to consult Biden on how to take away our firearms]

USA reported on this yesterday:
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the administration is in discussions with Chipman about “what other role might be appropriate for him in the federal government.” She said the administration would seek to confirm a director but declined to provide a timeline.

This should absolutely worry every freedom loving patriot in America. The fact that this administration nominated and fought for such an anti-2nd amendment candidate demonstrates their true position on your right to self-protection. The Chipman nomination will be broomed and he will be hidden away in the federal government where we can’t see what damage he is doing.
Keep in mind his position as Senior Policy Advisor at Giffords anti-gun groupone of the most aggressive groups aiming to take your gun rights away.
We must remain vigilant, and oppose those who want to destroy the rights defined in our Constitution.

However, this battle is not happening only in Washington.
Here at home, the NH Senate (Republican majority) played politics with 3 very good PRO-GUN bills, and left them hanging in the breeze.

  • HB 196 (adding trespass as an exception to the charge of criminal threatening) Held in Senate
  • HB 197 (Expanded stand your ground – vehicle) Held by the Senate
  • HB 307 (Preemption – with bureaucratic penalties) Held by the Senate

In short, every gun owner must be prepared to act in their own self-interest, and get actively engaged in the fight for our gun rights.
This means:

  • Calling your representative and senator.
  • Calling your Washington delegation.
  • Writing when necessary.
  • Appearing at hearings and testifying.
  • Supporting NHFC and other gun-rights groups.
  • Becoming an activist for the 2nd amendment

With the current administration hell bent on stripping us of many of our rights, forcing vaccinations, and creating laws by executive order, now is the time to wake up and join the fight.
