Important Bills Need To Get Out of the NH Senate

by Kirk Beswick on December 9, 2021

The battle for gun rights continues in the state of NH, and New Hampshire Firearms Coalition needs your help!

You might not remember, but the Republican lead senate held not one but four fantastic gun rights bills last session, and is now poised to review them again. Unfortunately, a great opportunity was squandered, and instead of strengthening gun rights, the Senate played politics with your right to self-protection, and tabled these bills.
Now the Senate Judiciary Committee is meeting to review these bills on December 14, we need your help to contact them and to tell them to do the right thing by making these bills NH law!
Here are the bills:

  • HB 307AN ACT relative to the state preemption of the regulation of firearms and     ammunition.
    • Summary:

This bill provides state preemption of the regulation of firearms, ammunition, ammunition components, knives, and firearms components and accessories. Puts teeth into the standing law that prohibits political subdivisions from creating unconstitutional anti-gun laws and inserts a penalty up to $10k for violations.

  • HB 196AN ACT adding trespass as an exception to the charge of criminal threatening.
    • Summary:

Self-defense with the intent to warn away the person criminally trespassing or making the threat shall not have committed a criminal act

  • HB 197AN ACT relative to the use of deadly force in defense of another.
    • Summary:
  • HB 440 An ACT prohibiting the suspension of civil liberties during a state of emergency.
    • Summary:

Permits the use of deadly force against another person in circumstance where deadly force is used in the commission of felony against a person in a vehicle. This bill would prohibit the executive branch from suspending constitutional protections during a state of emergency… Anyone remember Hurricane Katrina..

To me, these bills are a no-brainer, and need our full support.

Too often, towns, school departments and other “decision makers” impose unconstitutional restrictions on our right to self-protection. HB 307 fixes that, and makes sure that there are penalties imposes on those that seek to restrict our rights.

A few years ago, a NH citizen was imprisoned for simply defending his property against a trespasser who would not leave his property. HB 196 will make sure that this will not happen ever again.

HB 197 allows gun owners to protect themselves when they are in a vehicle.

Last year we saw the state shut down and our first amendment rights to gather as free citizens trampled.

Ask yourself why the Senate held these bills. NOPE. I don’t have a good answer either, but the time has come to call them on the carpet and get them on the record.

Contact the Judiciary Committee and tell them to pass these bills NOW!  These are the three votes that are potentially going to vote are way, so this is who we need to focus on.
