Good news: You did it!
Wednesday the NH House of Representatives voted to override the Governor’s veto of SB 88.
Your phone calls and emails made an impact, without them there is a very real chance this bill would have died.
I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to you for bringing us to this point.
When NHFC first championed stand your ground legislation, back in 2006, I knew it would be a tough fight, that we likely would not win right away. But you have stayed with me, consistently pressuring politicians to do the right thing on firearms legislation, and we are starting to reap the reward for our vigilance.
There is still more to do.
If you and I want to continue to advance the cause of firearms owners, we are going to have to continue the vigilance that brought us this far.
Several pieces of important legislation are scheduled to be acted upon in the next several months.
Political insiders are telling me that some politicians want this to be it. The passed this bill because they knew they had to give us something, but they don’t want to do anything else to help firearms owners this session.
You and I are going to work hard if we want to see Constitutional Carry, a stronger preemption law, or the NH Firearms Freedom act passed.
I will need you to remind politicians, voting right once will not be enough, they must vote right on every bill, every time.
On the vote on SB 88 we lost a few Representatives, with the importance of the other pieces of firearms legislation being considered over the coming months (including Constitutional Carry HB 536, Stronger Preemption HB 334, and the NH Firearms Freedom Act, HB 125), you and I will remind those Representatives who deserted us that their treasonous anti-gun votes will not be ignored, come next November.
You have achieved a great victory. In 60 days, when this new law becomes effective, you will no longer be faced with choosing between defending yourself and facing prosecution because you didn’t retreat, or turning and running from an attacker, possibly putting yourself in greater danger.
I could not have gotten here without your help.
Your vigilance in answering the call to arms whenever an important vote arose enabled this victory. I am going to need you to continue being vigilant over the coming months as we begin to deal with the rest of these bills.
You are what makes the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition the strong advocate for the rights of firearms owners that it is; I am glad to know I can count on you to continue to press on to roll back the gun-grabbers restrictions on your right to keep and bear arms.
In Liberty,
Jonathan R. Evans, Esq.
President, NHFC
PS. We have won a great victory here, but you and I must remain vigilant and continue to work hard to make sure the politicians do the right thing over the next few months, as several important bills are under consideration.
As you know, the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition relies on the generosity of its members, I know everyone can’t give every time I ask, but if you can afford to chip in $15, $20, or even just $10, it will make a difference in the fight to roll back more restrictions on your right to keep and bear arms.
