RBG and Our 2A Rights, Plus a Wrap Up of the Veto Session

by Kirk Beswick on September 21, 2020

This past Wednesday, September 16th, the final two 2020 anti-gun bills were laid to rest thanks in large part to your activism and the Governor’s vetos. Specifically, HB-687 and HB-1660 (both Red Flag extreme risk protective orders) died on the veto override vote.  The House and Senate upheld those two vetoes along with 20 other vetoed bills. The same leftist party that won’t stand-up for our national anthem or for our pledge of allegiance… spent the session day trying to keep those bills alive.  The great news is they lost!

If you recall, this past legislative season, the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition lead the fight against over 25 anti-gun bills and we won! These bills contained the Bloomberg gun grabbing wish list items. The proposed legislation included: Red Flag laws, waiting periods, range closure bills, magazine capacity limits, private sale bans, trigger locks and other awful unconstitutional bills. The good news is 100% of those bills died and we should all be grateful for the activism of Granite State gun owners.

This wasn’t easy. Mom’s Demand Action, more aptly named Moms Destroying America and other liberal groups are pouring money and resources into New Hampshire to take away our rights.  We need to stop them! The Democrat led majority tried every trick in the book to make it difficult for our side: Their tactics included closed hearings, moving public hearings at the last moment, and utilizing rooms too small to fit the large contingent of gun rights activists that showed up at the State House to oppose these bad bills.  On several occasions we had less than 4 days to rally our members to show up at a hearing to oppose the bills.

NHFC thanks each and every one of our members for working hard, showing up at hearings and supporting NHFC and all Granite State gun owners in defeating each of these bills.

Additionally, New Hampshire Firearms Coalition recently published the New Hampshire candidate scorecard/survey results for the Primary election held Tuesday September 7th.  This scorecard is an accurate assessment of each candidates’ actual position on the 2nd amendment based on past voting records, public statements and the NHFC survey.

During the primary, we mailed our survey results statewide to provide information regarding the candidates views on our second amendment civil rights. The NHFC Board is proud to announce that many of those candidates scoring an “A” grade on the scorecard were victorious in their primary battles, including Governor Sununu, Corky Messner, Matt Mowers, Steve Negron, Dave Wheeler and others. Congratulations to all!

The great news is that there are people running for office who care about your rights!!!!  The bad news is that we expended a substantial amount of our financial resources fighting the 25 bad gun bills including bills like: SB-677 (Republican version of HB-1660).  In addition, we just printed and mailed thousands of the primary scorecards and we need additional resources to mail the general election scorecards/survey results.

With the vetos upheld and the primary election behind us, NHFC and all Granite State gun owners now have the real battle ahead: the battle to replace radical anti-gun legislators in Concord and across the entire country during the general election.

You should know that there are open seats on both the New Hampshire Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court.  The opportunity has never been greater to expand the protections of our civil rights beyond Heller.  Now more than even we need you to be vigilant and to double down on your efforts to help us expand our civil rights!

New Hampshire Firearms Coalition is compiling data on all general election candidates. Once this is complete, NHFC will supply the general election scorecard and survey results statewide.

We count on your donations and memberships to make it possible to mail these scorecards and survey results.

The outcome of the November 3rd election will determine the future of gun rights in the live free or die State of New Hampshire as well as across the country. We know that our current US Senator, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, has a record of actively working against the rights of the gun owners.  She is already on the record for wanting to delay the replacement of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg hoping for a anti-gun, activist judge.  At the state level, the Executive Council confirms the nomination of justices for the state supreme court. Importantly, our current district 5 Executive Counselor Debra Pignatelli, voted against the nomination of a outstanding pro-gun candidate and the position remains unfilled.

If you are tired of the constant assault on the right to bear arms, by those in both Concord and Washington, would you please consider standing in the gap again and support the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition as we diligently work to protect your rights.

Please consider chipping in a generous $50 donation before October 1st to help defray the cost of printing and mailing scorecards, survey results and alerts. With your help we can take back our state and protect our God-given rights.

Please join the fight!!
