Primary Grades

by NH Firearms Coalition on August 30, 2014

The NHFC is pleased to offer this Election Guide for  NH Governor, United States Senate, Congress, Executive Council, and State Senate and Representative races. Only those races (GOP or Democrat) in which there is an active primary are contained in this guide.

These grades are the result of each candidate’s answers to an extensive questionnaire and any available voting records. In addition, we may also use any other reliable information regarding a candidate’s views on Second Amendment issues, such as to downgrade a candidate for public support of other anti-gun candidates. NHFC focuses solely on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and these grades only reflect this single issue. Candidates who received a “?” and would like to receive a rating for the General Election may download a questionnaire from our website.

The NHFC, Inc. hopes that you will find this information useful when you vote in our state’s Primary Elections on September 9th.

A+ 2nd Amendment leader, sponsors and promotes pro-gun legislation.
A Solid 2nd Amendment supporter, votes with NHFC, Inc. position 100%.
B Basically pro-2nd Amendment, but lacks understanding or solid conviction.
C Not considered a good grade. Has voted, or probably would vote against NHFC, Inc. position.
D Expected to always vote against gun owners? civil rights.
F Sponsors or promotes legislation hostile to 2nd Amendment civil rights.
? Failed to respond.
RS Indicates a deliberate refusal to accept or respond to survey. Indicates open hostility to the Second Amendment.
PB Has broken written promises concerning actions on Second Amendment Issues.
*S After an “A” or “A-“, grade is solely based on survey, without a voting record to back it up.

A+

Bob Smith (r)

When Smith was in the Senate, he was the embodiment of pro-gun action in that body. When the District of Columbia tried to authorize frivolous lawsuits to ban semi-autos nationwide, Smith stood against it. Even when some gun groups tried to embrace Bill Clinton’s package of gun control-including a statutory ban on the import of semi-autos-Smith stood up to them. Alone! And won. When Bill Clinton tried to tax and register Brady Check’s, the Smith Amendment stopped him. After 9/11, Smith was the chief sponsor of legislation to create the armed pilots program. The anti-gun crazies predicted exploding planes–just like the movies. But Smith won. And there has not been a successful hijacking of a plane with an armed pilot since then.

F

Scott Brown (r)

Brown supports semi-auto bans and refuses to back down from that position. He opposes national reciprocity for concealed carry.
