HB687 [Red Flag Gun Confiscation] passes NH Senate- Time to contact the Governor

They did it…   Yesterday, as expected, the radical gun banning Democrats in the New Hampshire Senate voted unanimously to pass HB-687 (Red Flag Gun Confiscation).

During the brief floor debate in the New Hampshire Senate there was no real discussion of:

  • the unintended consequences of eliminating due process protections
  • the downsides of weaponizing the police in the midst of nasty divorces
  • the real dangers of allowing hearsay, double hearsay, and even triple hearsay ‘evidence’ into a courtroom
  • the consequences of setting up a ‘justice for the wealthy system’, as low and moderate income families will not be able to afford the attorneys necessary to get their property back that was seized by the police
  • the issues of how false accusations could be targeted against minorities, when racial tensions are already simmering just below a boil
  • flipping the criminal justice system on its head and taking property before a crime has been committed
  • the downsides of creating policies that will mandate police to act on unsubstantiated information when they knock on your door at 5am.

Senate Democrats intentionally ignored the blatant issues with this legislation, and instead, in a mere 25 minutes or so, pushed through the ‘Bloomberg Red Flag Gun Confiscation’ bill.  Senators did not try to amend the bill with a floor amendment to fix the glaring due process issues.  They did not attempt to correct the problems that were raised during the hearing.  They just doubled down on their efforts to take away your firearms.

With just months before the 2020 elections, New Hampshire state Senators are showing their true colors.  One of the Senate Democrats, Senator Diestch, is so anti-gun, that in 2018 she began telling people “we can bring back 48-hr wait (which would stop many suicides), red flag laws, comprehensive background checks and licensing concealed carry…”.  Well she got her wish and now it is up to us to petition the Governor to veto this bill.

One should note, that this bill, HB687 comes directly out of the Bloomberg funded Anti-gun ‘tool kit’ discussed here on Ammoland.   The chair of the committee, Senator Martha Hennessey even referred to this bill as a ‘tool’ to take away people’s firearms.   Would you have expected anything less from a Bloomberg puppet?

We at NHFC have reviewed various sections of this page from the ‘Bloomberg playbook” and the authors of this ‘toolkit’ even dedicated an entire chapter to “5 REASONS WHY EVERY STATE NEEDS AN EXTREME RISK LAW”. They intend to use this type of model legislation in every state to deprive law abiding citizens of their firearms.

One should note that some Senators are promise breakers.  Contrary to his campaign promises of “I believe we protect our kids and our 2nd Amendment rights at the same time…”, Sen. Morgan, spoke on the Senate urging others to pass HB687, legislation that takes away your firearms.

Senator Morgan concealed his true agenda when started off his floor speech with some seemingly ‘pro gun’ statements like: “I own a Glock 19 and a Beretta CX4 storm and I’m a pretty damn good shot…. I strongly believe in our second amendment rights…”  Granite Staters have a long and proud history of responsible gun ownership, hunting and recreational use…  a couple weekends ago I took my two sons target shooting…”  and then after telling some personal stories, Senator Morgan betrayed gun owners and argued for passage of this Red Flag Gun Confiscation bill because in his opinion, it might “just save one family…”

Now is the time to start making phone calls to the Governor.  Apparently e-mailing the Governor results in a canned response regarding Covid-19.  The phone number for the Governor’s office is 603-271-2121.  We also need you to sign the updated petition on our website and to share this petition with several of your friends.  Please e-mail the link to the petition to several of your firearms friends.

Below are the full quotes from Senator Morgan and Senator Dietsch when they were asking for your vote in 2018.

“I believe we can protect our kids and our 2nd Amendment rights at the same time. I am a gun owner and am proud of NH’s rich tradition of responsible gun ownership. I will work with Republicans, Democrats & law enforcement to prioritize common-sense solutions to make our communities safer. What I won’t do is arm school teachers or hold water for the extremes of either major political party.” [emphasis mine] Source: Citizens Count Issue Survey 2018

Senator Dietsch had this to say: “I’ve spoken with thousands of voters and not found one unwilling to return to the legal regimen of their childhood. This includes hunters, law enforcement and gun enthusiasts. With this approach to gun safety, we can bring back 48-hr wait (which would stop many suicides), red flag laws, comprehensive background checks and licensing concealed carry. Because banning assault weapons and 3D printed guns are complex issues, I would form a study committee to address them specifically.” [emphasis mine] Source: Citizens Count Issue Survey 2018
