Official Veto Request

Dear Governor Chris Sununu,

Whereas: Part 1st, Article 2 of the New Hampshire Constitution clearly states “All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights – among which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting, property…” and;

Whereas: Part 1st, Article 2a of the New Hampshire Constitution clearly states “All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state.” and;

Whereas: The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” and;

Whereas: This inalienable, individual right clearly includes the right of all law-abiding citizens to purchase and carry a gun for self-defense, and;

Whereas: New Hampshire is consistently ranked as one of the safest states, and;

Whereas: Real-life experience and extensive research both clearly demonstrate that restricting the right to bear arms in self-defense only encourages violent crime, and;

Whereas: That when law abiding people are free to make their own choices of whether or not to carry concealed firearms everyone benefits because criminals have no way of knowing if their intended victims are armed and able to defend themselves and their peers, and;

Whereas: History has shown us that when administrators, teachers and citizens can carry self-defense guns into schools, students are better, off;

Whereas: New Hampshire has not had random acts of violence in our schools precisely because we are different from other states and do not restrict the carrying of small arms by the law abiding;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, to protect liberty and the civil rights of individuals to defend themselves, their peers and their families, and to honor the oath you took to uphold the Constitutions, we REQUEST that ALL Anti-gun bills intended to restrict the rights, freedoms and self-reliance of law abiding citizens of New Hampshire, including but not limited to: HB101, HB109, HB515, HB564, HB687, HB696 and any proposed amendments, be voted “Inexpedient To Legislate” or Vetoed.
